The future of European Transport is high on the agenda and it needs quite a bit of imagination to respond to the various challenges that are facing the transport sector. What will be the road ahead for transport policy over the next 20 years? How will decision-makers handle challenges like emissions, congestion and infrastructure in a post-carbon society?

Held on an annual basis, the European Transport Forum is the EU’s central debating platform on transport issues. It gathers stakeholders, policy-makers, academics and NGOs to help shape the EU’s future transport policy.

Headline speaker on the 9th of September will be Antonio Tajani, European Commission Vice-President and Commissioner responsible for Transport policy, who will present the upcoming Communication on the future of European transport, and outline his thoughts on the 2010 White Paper on transport, which will include a set of ambitious policy measures to tackle the long term policy challenges.
